Through the process of learning, I realized it would be fun to write down the different ways as in my perception. So here is a piece on what I feel leadership is all about.
We have read about many leaders in our social studies textbook, in Indian mythology, newspapers and have met a few as well. There are a few things common in all which make them stand out.
In history we learned about Mahatma Gandhi. Irrespective of various controversies that came up, he is always idolized by many. His strategies included winning the confidence of Indians, rising the hopes when people had given up, communicating with not just his subjects but also the Britishers. He made sure that all his subjects had faith on the mission. Another type of leader was Hitler, autocratic in nature, who made it into the books of history.
Apart from political leaders, some mythological leaders inspire me. Talking about Lord Ram in the so-called-Kalyug would not be the right thing. Krishna portrays a strong and manipulative leader whose ways fit in even today. Well determined with what he wants, he always made the best strategies and chose the right people to claim the goals.
In the business world, an admirable leader that comes to my mind is Narayan Murthy. He sets an example that a leader needs to get back in action whenever his disciplines need him to. With the amazing foresight that he had during the start of his IT empire, he has achieved not just a different level of success, but also respect from everyone.
At a certain point of time, we all would have played the role of a leader. It could just be leading your team in a game of kabaddi or plotting the time table for your students and making sure they stick to it. All that is needed is to keep trying and knowing what can be next corrected or achieved.
